The step up from electric.
Electric ride-ons are a great start, but they stay quiet, slow and predictable. The MTX idles with a proper two-stroke note and responds to the throttle the way a real machine does. It fires cleanly from cold, and when the tank runs low a splash of two-stroke mix keeps the afternoon going — no waiting hours for a charge.
That difference matters. Children learn to read engine sound, feather the throttle and judge braking distance — the same instincts they will use on every machine that follows.
Two ways to stop it — one for the rider, one for you
The MTX has two independent safety systems, and they are not the same thing.
The adjustable speed limiter is a screw on the throttle housing that physically restricts how far the throttle can open. Wind it in and the quad simply cannot exceed a walking pace, however hard the rider pushes; wind it out as your child gets more confident. It is a mechanical stop, not an electronic setting — nothing to reset, nothing to fail — and it means one machine covers a nervous first lap and a competent rider a season later.
The engine cut-off tether cord works on the same principle used on jet skis: a coiled cord clips to the rider's wrist or clothing at one end and to a switch on the quad at the other. If the rider leaves the seat for any reason, the cord pulls the switch and the engine stops immediately — the quad does not carry on without them. There is also a stop switch on the handlebar within the rider's reach. Clipping the tether on is worth making a habit before every single ride.
The right size for a first quad
Fit matters more than power on a beginner machine. The MTX is compact enough for a child to handle and stable enough not to feel twitchy, and light enough for one adult to lift into a car boot or trailer — so the riding spot does not have to be your own garden.
Before the first ride, check three things with your child sitting on it:
- both feet rest flat on the footboards, knees relaxed, not folded up
- both hands reach the brake levers without stretching or shifting grip
- the thumb throttle moves through its full travel without the wrist rolling forward
If all three work, your child fits the machine. The MTX is intended for supervised riding, with a helmet and protective gear at all times.

The engine and drivetrain
The single-cylinder air-cooled two-stroke is the classic mini quad engine: light, simple, and with its power arriving high in the rev range, where a child can feel it building rather than being surprised by it. CDI ignition means there are no points to adjust — the spark timing is handled electronically every time.
Power reaches the rear axle through a fully automatic centrifugal clutch. Below a certain engine speed the clutch stays disengaged, so the quad idles standing still with the engine running; open the throttle and the clutch takes up drive smoothly on its own. There are no gears, no gear lever and no clutch lever — the rider has a thumb throttle and two brake levers, and nothing else to think about.
Final drive is by chain, on the standard T8F size used across mini quads. It is the part that will need attention first, and deliberately so: a chain is cheap, universally available and takes minutes to tension or replace.
Brakes, suspension and tyres
Both axles run discs rather than drums. Drums fade when they get hot and lose bite the moment they get wet or full of mud — exactly the conditions a quad lives in. Discs shed water and dirt as the wheel turns, so the lever feels the same on the tenth run of the afternoon as it did on the first. Both are operated by hand levers on the handlebar; there is no foot pedal for a beginner to hunt for under pressure.
At the front, twin coil-over shock absorbers work with a swing arm on each side, letting the wheels move independently over ruts and roots. At the rear, a single mono shock does the same job for the axle. The point is not comfort for its own sake — a child who is being thrown around tenses up and grabs a handful of throttle, while a child who stays settled steers and brakes properly.
The 13" knobby tyres are sized slightly wider at the rear than the front, which is what gives the MTX its stance and its grip on loose ground. The deep tread bites into grass, gravel and dirt instead of skating across it.
Fuel and running-in
The MTX runs on a petrol and two-stroke oil mixture at 1:25 — that is 40 ml of oil per litre of petrol — and never on straight petrol. Getting this wrong is the most common way a two-stroke engine is damaged, so mix it in a clean can rather than in the tank, and make up only as much as you will use.
Ride the first tank gently: vary the throttle, avoid holding it wide open, and let the engine cool between runs. Half an hour of patience here is the difference between an engine that lasts several seasons and one that does not.
Where it can be ridden
The MTX is an off-road machine. It has no lights, indicators or registration plate and is not homologated for public roads anywhere in the EU. It is intended for private land, closed courses and off-road tracks, always with the landowner's permission. Local rules vary between countries and municipalities, so it is worth checking what applies where you live before the first ride.
Living with it
A tubular steel frame and generous ground clearance let the MTX take real punishment on rough terrain. Electric start gets it going at the turn of a key, and the backup pull start means a flat battery never ends the ride early.
Day-to-day upkeep is deliberately simple: check the chain, check the tyre pressures, mix the fuel and ride. Spare parts are held in our own European stock, so a worn chain or brake pad is a quick fix — not the end of the season.
